Do I need to get a root canal just because I need to get a crown?
A root canal only needs to be done when there is infection and/or damage in the nerves or pulp of a tooth. The dentist will clean out the area and remove the nerve and pulp. A crown is then usually placed on top of the tooth to stabilize it.
If you need a crown simply to restore the shape and structure of a tooth, no root canal is needed.
